Maternity Shoot Prep Guide

From choosing the right outfit for your photoshoot to other important things in achieving the maternity photos you want, here are some tips and reminders to keep in mind:

Choosing your Outfit(s) for the Session

  • For ideas on the themes and style you want for your maternity portraits, check out our maternity catalog.
  • We have maternity dresses available in our studio. Simply ask us for photos so you can choose which one you want to use.
  • Always choose wardrobe items you feel comfortable and confident with.
  • Match your undergarments with the color of your chosen wardrobe. Nude color underwear can be used with any dress., while a back bra is best for black clothes.
  • Bring a strapless bra, since they’re suitable for any wardrobe items.
  • Avoid wearing shorts. Box shorts are fine, but loose shorts and black shorts are not advisable.
  • You can also bring your own set of clothes with your maternity dress. Here are some of the most popular clothing items and accessories for maternity sessions:
    • Neutral strapless bra and seamless underwear
    • Black or white/ivory bra and panty set (color depends on the background color for the belly shots)
    • Lingerie sets
    • Tube top or belly band
    • Regular jeans (not maternity ones) and a camisole top
    • Buttoned shirt or blouse
    • Long, flowy, or form-fitting dress (e.g. tube dress or a summer maxi dress)
    • Button-ups sweaters or cardigans
    • Men’s button-ups top and jeans (for significant other/husband)
    • Coordinating outfits (for significant other/husband and/or children)
    • Any favorite scarves, accessories, jewelry, etc.
    • Any sentimental items (ex. baby ultrasound image)

Reminders:

  • When picking the perfect dress, choose one that matches your lingerie and accessories.
  • Avoid choosing baggy or loose-fitting tops or dresses for the shoot.
  • Solid colors and floral patterns are always the best choices.
  • When choosing your wardrobe, pay attention to how your undergarments can be seen underneath.
  • We won’t provide the wardrobe for your partner, so make sure to bring a matching outfit for them. When choosing the right outfit for them, keep these tips in mind:
    • Keep their attire simple. A pair of jeans and a button-down, cotton, or v-neck shirt would suffice
    • Avoid distracting patterns and loud colors. Pick your outfit first, and theirs second to make sure their outfit complements yours.
    • Cotton and linen shirts are the most ideal tops. They’re comfy and versatile for any type of maternity wardrobe.

Hair and Make-up for the Shoot

  • We highly recommend hiring a professional hair and makeup artist to take care of your look for your maternity shoot.

The following entails our HMUA policy for photoshoots.

If booking one of our HMUA partners, there’ll be an additional payment of ₱2000 for one layout and ₱3500 for three layouts. The fee includes the HMUA’s services plus assistance during the shoot.

You can check out partner HMUAs’ profiles here

If you’re bringing your own HMUA, your makeup artist has one hour free to use the studio for preparation.

After the free hour is over, your time for the photoshoot will begin running.
For questions or clarifications, feel free to contact us.

If you want to do your own makeup, here’s a tip: stick to a matte finish and apply an extra blush to highlight those cheeks in your photos.

  • You can also go makeup-free if you want to go au naturel for the shoot. However, it might be a good idea to apply at least translucent powder on your face to prevent shine.
  • Most of our poses will involve looking down at your belly. Carefully consider your preferred hairstyle before your scheduled session.
  • Get a pedicure/manicure before your shoot to keep your nails polished and looking perfect in your photos, especially if you’re planning to wear open-toed shoes.

Partners and Siblings

  • As mentioned, when choosing outfits for any member of your family joining the photos, avoid distracting patterns and loud colors. Pick your outfit first, then you can choose coordinating clothes for your partner and children.

Other Reminders and Tips

  • Apply lotion to your bare arms and legs to keep them moisturized and looking fresh in the photos.
  • Don’t forget to bring water and your other essentials for your scheduled session.
  • If children are joining in on the photos, we will take the family shots first, then you with the children. We also suggest bringing a babysitter along.
  • Feel free to bring any special baby items you’d love to include in the photos.
